So I hear there is a big hurricane coming that is going to land down over a large portion of the Texas Gulf area. Since we are in the DFW metroplex, it never really crossed my mind to think about how people protect their watercrafts during a tropical storm or hurricane. For some reason, I wondered about that today. I've seen plenty of hurricanes on the news and I have often thought about how I would protect my land based property in the event of a natural disaster, but what do people do to protect their boats? My boat is small enough that I keep it on my property and tow it where I like to go fishing. What do people who have these expensive yachts do in the event of a catastrophic storm?

Most of the advice has to do with tying the craft down, but there is also a section about anchoring down in a way that allows the boat to move with the wind. As a person who doesn't do much coastal fishing, I have never given much thought. The website also goes on to explain how you should leave slack in the lines to adjust for rising tides. It's actually pretty fascinating and I would suggest that anyone who is unfamiliar with what to do with their boat during a storm should read what the site has to say.
