So, it's getting to be that time of year. Of course, in Texas, it can't ever seem to make up its mind whether the season wants to be fall or not. Flip-flopping back and forth between too cold for the lake and just right can make it difficult to judge what the temp of the water will be. I will say one thing about this time of year. I love the way the fog can gather over the water on a cold fall morning. 

Boats on a Foggy Lake


I will admit that I am not much of an angler, so I have no clue what the constantly shifting weather does to fish and how they bite, but I will say that the fog is one of my favorite things to look at when I drive past a body of water. I am lucky enough that on my way to work, there are several large stock ponds and livestock tanks that are always warm enough to put off a fog in the morning. I have never been brave enough to try to take my boat out on the foggy water and I probably never will since I bet getting too close will ruin the magic of it all for me. There is always a certain ephemeral beauty to the way the whole scene looks and I would imagine that getting out on the water might be dangerous and possibly ruin the scene for everyone. 

My Boating Suspicions

I suspect that if I were to take my boat out on the water when it is producing a good fog, that it will be similar to how it goes on my drive when I finally get down to the valley where it all gathers. I like to look at it from a distance, but once I get inside of it, my visibility is reduced and I can't wait to get out of it. It's fun and beautiful from a distance, but it kind of becomes dangerous when you get too close.
