We joke about heading south for the winter, but here in Texas, we really don't have to worry too much about harsh winters for the most part. Sure some people in the panhandle may experience some colder weather than down near the gulf, but for the most part, we don't experience the harsher things that winter can have to offer like blizzards.



Winter for your Boat

When you get ready to put your boat up for the winter, it gives you some time to think about what you may be able to do next year. There are some places that I have heard of but I have yet to visit since my family has grown and I don't get out much further than the local lakes. I would like to introduce them to you. 

Hanging Rock State Park in North Carolina has a lake aptly named Hanging Rock Park Lake that is supposed to be very family friendly when it comes to dropping a line in its waters. Now, for a lot of people, towing a boat all the way to the Carolinas could seem like a daunting task. I would be one of those people. However, like my grandpa used to say to me, "If it's important to you, you'll make time. If not, then you'll make excuses". 

One of the other places I have heard that is a great fishing spot is the Everglades in Florida. I will admit that I haven't done much research on how dangerous it could be, but it did land on the top ten list of the 100 best places to take your family fishing by. It intrigues me how this place could be so high up on the list and I have never actually been to Florida so it may be a win-win situation!

Best Fishing Spots

Here is the list of the top 100 places for family-friendly fishing so that you can browse at your leisure. This list could take a long time to cross all the locations off, but you can always start with the ones closest to you.
